Improving Linkages to Care

HIV testing is part of a continuum of high quality HIV services in the province of Ontario. This includes prevention services to stop people from being infected, as well as a range of clinical care and support services for those already infected. HIV testing can be a gateway to all of these services.
Both Ontario and Canada are working to stop the HIV epidemic using the UN 90-90-90 goals. The 90-90-90 targets propose that by 2020:

  • 90% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status
  • 90% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained antiretroviral therapy
  • 90% of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy will have viral suppression

Ontario’s progress in achieving these goals is monitored by the Ontario HIV Epidemiology and Surveillance Initiative (OHESI). For a summary of Ontario’s progress see the OHESI fact sheet, The HIV care cascade in Ontario, or visit the OHESI web site for more detailed information.
